Quickstart
Sign in, send from the sandbox number, answer in the inbox, connect your own number and wire up an API key, the CLI or MCP.
You can do all of this in the sandbox, before Meta has approved anything. Connecting your own number is step 5, whenever you are ready.
1. Sign in
Sign in with your email or Google. You get an organization of your own on the Free plan, no card needed, and a sandbox number is created for it.
2. Send from the sandbox
Open Inbox in the dashboard and message one of the sandbox's test customers. Outside a customer's 24-hour window only templates can be sent, exactly as with Meta, so start with the approved hello_world template the sandbox comes with. It reports sent, delivered and read within a few seconds.
3. Get a reply in the inbox
The test customer writes back on their own after a few seconds. You can also make a customer write whatever you want, which is how you test an agent:
curl -X POST https://getwabi.dev/api/v1/simulate_inbound_message \ -H "Authorization: Bearer wabi_…" \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ -d '{"text":"Hi, where is my order?"}'The message arrives through the same pipeline as real Meta traffic: it opens the customer's window, shows up in the inbox in real time, and fires a message.received event to your webhooks. Now free-form replies are allowed. The sandbox guide lists everything the simulator does.
4. Try a template and an agent
- Templates: write one in English, generate the other languages with AI, and submit. In the sandbox each language is reviewed after about a minute.
- AI agents (Starter and up on live numbers; any plan in the sandbox): give it instructions and knowledge sources, deploy it on the sandbox number, and simulate a customer question. The session explorer shows what it read, what it called and why it answered or escalated.
5. Connect your own number
In Settings → Accounts, connect a WhatsApp Business Account one of two ways:
- Embedded Signup: Meta's guided flow. Sign in with Facebook, choose or create a WhatsApp Business Account and a number, and approve access. Wabi subscribes to the account's webhooks for you.
- Manual connect: paste the WABA id and a system-user access token with the
whatsapp_business_managementandwhatsapp_business_messagingpermissions from Meta Business Manager. Use it for accounts you already run.
Either way, no webhook server is needed on your side. Meta's message fees are billed by Meta to that account's payment method; Wabi shows estimates at cost and never bills them.
6. Connect your code or your agent
Create an API key in Integrations (optionally narrowed to scopes), or let the CLI make one for you:
npx @meterapp/wabi loginnpx @meterapp/wabi get_sandboxnpx @meterapp/wabi get_onboardingGive a coding agent the same powers over MCP; it signs in through your browser:
claude mcp add --transport http wabi https://getwabi.dev/api/mcpget_onboarding returns the setup checklist with the next step and the op that does it, which is a good first thing for an agent to call. Every op is in the API reference; npx @meterapp/wabi ops lists them in a terminal.
